Painted Gyp, Oct 06, 2011 - Jan 18, 2012
Painted Gyp is a series of snapshots taken of my apartment kitchen's eastern wall just above and beyond my stove. These photographs are part of TOM SANE'S 10% which is a daily practice in the spirit of Little Hours and carried out at the 10% point* of each day.
The photographic act is part of my morning routine much like brushing my teeth or taking a vitamin. The camera location, height, and distance to subject are precise, but the angle of incidence varies in each photograph. The camera is a Kodak Zi6 with all settings at factory defaults. Lighting is natural: 24.5 sq.ft. of north-facing glass at 8' away on a perpendicular wall. All photographs are manipulated in Photoshop to 600px wide; brightness 85; contrast 85; (export settings listed for each animation) to give them needed clarity here for degraded web format display. Date Ranges are determined by the occasion of loading the images from the camera to my computer. All new images for each session are then compiled into one animation and posted here.This series will continue as long as I live at this address and have access to the wall. After taking the wall photo on January 18,2012 I dropped the camera and it no longer works. The next day I started on a new Tom Sane 10 Project called How To Write Right.

* For my purposes the extents of the day are defined by local daily sunrise and sunset times. On this timeline 10% varies daily, occuring roughly between 7 and 8 AM throughout the year. On particularly cloudy dismal days the photograph will be taken sometime later (roughly 30 minutes). The variance in time (aka missing the (10%) mark) is due to (and thus mildly acceptable IMHO) the dumb practicality of taking a photo in the dark where the wall doesn't even register and the result is a black blur.
